I picked this video bc it is a textbook example of odor coming up over the top of a vehicle and being very difficult for smaller dogs to source. Due to how the odor was presenting pcaused Ph’nx to put her feet on paint many times. Despite it looking like she was being uber aggressive with her feet, she really wasn’t.
This was back in 2021 so feet on paint rules were a bit more relaxed - we did not get any faults for her paws. I doubt the hide placement would be the same today as it definitely encourages paws up.
We ended up not finding the hide and timing out. 😢
For Aleks - this was the NW3 in Cortez CO March 2021. It was cold (freezing for people from Az).
I felt bad for Ph’nx bc she worked her heart out and never gave up and actually found it the moment AFTER we timed out which I missed in person so unable to reward at source. Thankfully we still had a party all the way back to the car.
In retrospect the only thing I could have done is present the key points to her - wheels, license plate and front bumper. Though presenting the license plate would have mean asking her to put her feet on the car. That’s assuming I would have the forethought - in the moment - to think about presentation. Which is doubtful, even now. 🤦♀️
